Listening Theme 19 – CHRISTMAS

Not long now, so I’m looking for your recommendations of Christmas songs/albums. There’ll be hundreds to choose from so I should be able to fill the 3 weeks leading up to the big day (as long as I can last out, I might be sick of Christmas once it arrives!).

Everyone should have something to say on this one so if you haven’t taken part before, now’s your chance to join in. All recommendations will be warmly received and I will listen to as many as I can find online.

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, I’ve decided to run a special theme within a theme with this one. As well as listening to these Christmas albums I’m also going to track down and listen to as many different recordings of ‘White Christmas’ as I can. So if you can think of any obscure ones (that I might be able to hear online) let me know.

Seasons greetings, Paul

  • Hey Paul,

Good luck with this one! Christmas music gets old for me quickly. However 2 songs that I listen to most every year come to mind.

“Everything Is Cool” and “Christmas In Prison” both from the John Prine release “A John Prine Christmas”……..

    Cheers,

    Laramie

  • Paul!
    LeRoy Anderson: Sleighride
    Roger Miller: Old Toy Trains
    Sufjan Stevens: Worst Christmas Ever!
The Band: Christmas Must Be Tonight
    The Hoppers: Treasure

    I agree!
That A John Prine Christmas is classic and always one of the first I go to to start the season…

  • Good call on the John Prine. The Boxmasters with Billy Bob Thornton covered that for their Xmas album.

Christmas with Buck Owens. He’s got the best Xmas love song too… All I Want for Christmas Dear is You. If you can find it, you’re in for a treat.
