Listening Theme – Elvis Presley
Happy New Year everyone and what better way to start 2010 than with a new Listening Theme.
I’m a big Elvis fan so I thought it was about time I had an Elvis Presley Listening Theme, especially as we head towards what would have been his 75th birthday on January 8th.
So let me know your favourite Elvis tracks, albums, movies or any covers of Elvis songs recorded by other artists
Cheers, Paul
MYSTERY TRAIN from the Sun Sessions gets the most mileage for me…
Chris
I prefer Dwight Yoakam’s Suspicious Minds to Elvis’s original version of Mark James song. Dwight’s version felt like an event.
Another cover I like is Nick Cave’s version of In the Ghetto (my fav Elvis track) from his solo debut From Her to Eternity.
I’ll second Mystery Train-as it is the title of Greil Marcus’ famous book! I believe you turned me on to that book, Chris. I really like more raw Elvis recordings with Scotty Moore on guitar.
“Little Less Conversation” is my fave. It’s almost impossible to listen to it without dancing.
Thanks for your suggestions. I’ll be checking out those covers Garod.
