Here is a starter, GAROD and PAUL (ADAMS) have been thinking about the Rolling Stones quite a bit over the last couple months. So what is your favorite Stones lyric. It can just be a line but because The Stones are overlooked in the lyric wars, and because of that Susan Boyle phenomenon, let’s start with the full lyric for WILD HORSES.
(Mick Jagger/Keith Richards)
WILD HORSES
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can’t let you slide through my hands
Wild horses, couldn’t drag me away
Wild wild horses couldn’t drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or off stage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses, couldn’t drag me away
Wild wild horses couldn’t drag me away
I know I’ve dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don’t have much time
Faith has been broken tears must be cried
Let’s do some living after we die
Wild horses, couldn’t drag me away
Wild wild horses we’ll ride them someday
Wild horses, couldn’t drag me away
Wild wild horses we’ll ride them someday
As far as favorite single lyrics, I’m fond of “I am just living to be lying by your side ” from Moonlight Mile. Somewhat simple, but it just sounds so damn good when you sing it. (or Mick)
As far as single tracks as a whole… does it get much better than Sympathy for the Devil? Every single line is brilliant. I might have sold my own soul to have written that.
“Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind.” Ruby Tuesday
“Cause my sweet girl was once his wife
And he had papers that the judge had signed
The wind blew hard it was a stormy night
He shot me once but I shot him twice.”HAND OF FATE
WILD HORSES – THE STONES KICK THE EAGLES’ BUTT IN THEIR OWN GENRE, COUNTRY ROCK BALLADS. GEORGE JONES SAID STONES WERE A GREAT COUNTRY BAND
“WHO’S THAT BLACK GIRL IN THE BRIGHT BLUE HAIR?
DON’T YOU KNOW THAT IT’S RUDE TO STARE?”
IF YOU CAN’T ROCK ME
