Paul Adams Listening Theme: PIANO PEOPLE

After a bit of fun last week with 70’s Disco here’s a more serious theme …
Listening Theme – The Piano Men (and Women!)

This is one of those themes that gets bigger the more you think about it – singer/songwiters that are primarily pianists. Elton John, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tori Amos, Alicia Keys – the list could be endless, covering many styles of music.

So let’s have some recommendations (not just names, I’d like specific albums to look out for).

Cheers, Paul

  • “River” from Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” album is one of my faves. Also love “Brick” on Ben Folds Five’s album “Whatever and Ever Amen”, and of course “Lawyers, Guns, and Money” from Warren Zevon’s “Excitable Boy” album.
I’m not sure whether or not Kate Bush counts, but “Moments of Pleasure” is an especially beautiful song from the “Red Shoes” album.

    You beat me to RIVER

  • You beat me to Todd Rundgren.

  • GT Nomeland

ELTON JOHN – “GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD”, “TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION”
STEVIE WONDER – “INNERVISION”, “SONGS IN KEY OF LIFE”
    LEE MICHAELS – “BARREL”
JONI MITCHELL – ANY EARLY ALBUMS WITH PIANO ON THEM
MCCARTNEY & WINGS – “MAYBE I’M AMAZED”, ETC.

I beat Todd Rundgren with his own doofus hard rock guitar

  • GT Nomeland

    GOOD OLD BACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tom Waits Small Change specifically “Tom Traubert’s Blues”

  • Bonnie Raitt’s cover of the Buddy Johnson song, “Since I Fell for You.” It’s on her first album “Bonnie Raitt” which was released in 1971. The rest of the album features her awesome blues guitar playing, but I like her on piano, too. This is a great song to sing along to.
